On this poignant day, we celebrate the life and achievements of a remarkable individual, Ijeoma Loren Uche-Okeke. Today marks Ijeoma’s birthday, the second since her passing just over a year ago, and her absence is deeply felt by all who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter.

A Life Well-Lived

Ijeoma, a dedicated arts manager and curator, touched the hearts of many not only through her professional contributions but also as a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Together with her sister, she initiated the Uche Okeke Legacy Foundation, leaving a lasting impact on the art community that she so passionately served.

Her influence went beyond the walls of galleries and institutions. As one friend beautifully stated, "Some people find a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful. Ijeoma did both." Her mark on us is indelible, a deep impression of kindness, warmth, and love that will forever resonate.

Continuing the Legacy

Ijeoma had a vision, a dream that extended beyond her time with us. The work she started is now being continued by those she inspired, and we fervently wish she could witness the growth and impact of the legacy she left behind.

In the words of her sister Salma, "Dearest Ijeoma, whenever the chapters of my life close, you will be the most beautiful chapter." Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and in the foundation she helped establish.

A Professional Journey

Ijeoma's professional journey was as impressive as her personal one. Armed with a broad professional experience within art organizations, civil society, and academia, she possessed strong skills in administration, program development, project coordination, and management. Her educational background in fine and applied arts, coupled with postgraduate studies in arts, culture, and heritage management, equipped her to assume responsibilities within the arts and culture sector and beyond.

Over 15 years, she honed her skills in arts and projects management, working on both national and international projects. Her specialties included strong analytical and communication skills, extensive experience in proposal and report writing, research and knowledge management, fundraising, resource mobilization, and relationship management.

A Lasting Impact

As we reflect on Ijeoma's life, let us draw inspiration from her words: "I am always interested in opportunities to strengthen my skills and learn new ones. I am open to challenges as they allow me to continually develop and improve on my technical, logistic, intellectual, and creative abilities."

In her memory, let us strive to continue her work with love, humility, and harmony. May her legacy be a guiding light for all those who follow in her footsteps.
